Inside the Romanian Jail for Women

This very interesting experiment took place in a women’s prison in Tigisoara, Romania. 6 digital cameras were given to 6 inmates and they were making pictures of everything that they thought could be interesting. How it seems, miss Radisoor wanted to see what sort of images might be captured by the residents of a Romanian woman’s prison. In order to do that, they provided the women with six Canon Powershot digital cameras, memory cards, batteries, and all the accessories necessary. They also gave the women instructions on how to use the equipment followed by basic photography lessons over time. This is just one part which I cough to translate, what one woman from the prison said: “I received six Canon PowerShot cameras that I took with me to Tirgsor in July. The cameras scared me, they had so many buttons and the manual was so complex that I was skeptical that anyone could use them; I, for one, wasn’t able to. I felt very nervous”. It seemed like the cameras were terrifying and intimidating, but in the end thousands of pictures were taken. Many of them are absolutely stunning.

18th Century Monsters From Japan

The images were scanned from the book ‘Youkai hyakumonogatari emaki’ (妖怪百物語絵巻) published by Kokusho Kankokai in 2003. Fortunately it includes a transcription of the cursive script, along with some notes on the old Japanese and the book has a little commentary about each monster. The Bakemono Zukushi handscroll, painted in the Edo period (18th-19th century) by an unknown artist, depicts 24 traditional monsters that once used to spook the people of Japan. Most of these monsters look pretty scary to me even now days. What is interesting it all looks like it is closely connected to the cult of death and with so called undead. I find it very fascinating.

Oyajirome (親白眼) has a bulging eye on the back of its head and a claw on its one-fingered hand.

Yume-no-seirei (“dream ghost” – 夢の精霊) appears as a thin old man in a white robe.

Yamamba (山姥) is a mountain hag.

Rokurokubi (ろくろくび), a long-necked woman, is pictured next to an Inugami (犬神) dog spirit.

Boukon (亡魂), a departed soul, appears to have pale blue skin, long hair, and a distended belly.

Ushi-oni (牛鬼) is a sea monster with the head of a cow and the body of a giant spider or crab.

Yamawaro (山童) is a one-eyed kappa-like creature found in the mountains.

Buraribi (ぶらり火) is a white, bird-like creature surrounded by ghostly flames.

Uwan (うわん) is a creature that inhabits abandoned buildings.

Akashita (“red tongue” – 赤舌) is a hairy-faced creature that hides in a dark cloud.

Yuki-onna (“snow woman” – 雪女) appears on snowy nights as a beautiful woman with long hair.

Daichiuchi (大地打) is a mallet-wielding monster with a bird-like face.

Nekomata (猫また) cat demon plays the shamisen next to a kitsune (狐) fox spirit.

Kami-kiri (“hair cutter” – 髪切) are known for sneaking up on people and cutting off their hair.

Dōmo-kōmo (どうもこうも) is a two-headed creature with gray skin.

Sara-hebi (さら蛇) is a large, snake-like creature with the head of a woman.

Mi-no-kedachi (身の毛立) has a coat of body hair that stands on end.

Nobusuma (のぶすま) has a brown body, human-like face, spiky hair, claws, and sharp black teeth.

Uma-shika (馬鹿) is a horse-like monster with a horn on its head and a single bulging eye.

Hajikkaki (はぢっかき) has a round white body with short arms and legs.

Odoroshi (おどろし) is a red-faced monster with big eyes, black teeth, and long hair.

Most of the movie stars really deserve that name, they really are genuine stars and their ability to transform is remarkable. When a movie is being made by a true story the actor is the one which has to get into that part and to become that person, has to do some study and not only to make his face look alike but as well as moves, walk, talk, everything. Here are the photos some of the best acting performances ever. This was not an easy job for these people and all I have to say is that I truly admire their talent. These are the best moves I’ve ever seen, some of the actors are even unrecognizable, for example Charlize Theron in the move Monster doesn’t look like the Charlize we all know. Apatani Women

The Apatani, or Tanii, are a tribal group of about 26,000 (approximately) in Ziro valley in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh India. However more Apatanis live outside this valley, making the total population to approximately 26,000 all over the state. Their language belongs to the Sino-Tibetan family.
The Apatanis used to practice facial tattooing and modification until the 1970s. The females used to have two sets of tattoos: one running from the forehead to the tip of the nose, and another set on the chin. The males used to have a less elaborate tattoo on the chin in the shape of a “T”. The females were the only one practicing facial modification with the use of a nose plugs, called yaping hurlo in the local language. It was done since old times, to make the women look ugly, in order to protect them from invaders.

Everyone wants to be admired, so that is the main reason why people do these crazy things, just to be the first, the best, the bravest, the smartest, the main reason is just to be the No.1! And it doesn’t matter if you may get hurt and will it be dangerous, the important thing is to do it and just to know that you did one extraordinary thing in your life. The feeling is priceless. Nothing can’t compare to the feeling that you are the first or the best in something. Is it worth of maybe getting injured? Well I must say it does, just fr that feeling it is! Adrenalin is pumping!

Dog Town

This “Town” is located in the Southern city of Caxias do Sul, Brazil and it was built by humane organization. It provides shelter for more than 1,600 dogs and 200 cats. Their monthly income is about $14,000 but it’s still not enough.

Self Removing Appendix – Leonid Rogozov

From September 1960 until October 1962, Rogozov worked in Antarctica, including his role as the sole doctor in a team of thirteen researchers at the Novolazarevskaya Station, which was established in January 1961.
On the morning of 29 April 1961, Rogozov experienced general weakness, nausea, and moderate fever, and later pain in the upper right portion of the abdomen. All possible conservative treatment measures did not help. By 30 April signs of localized peritonitis became apparent, and his condition worsened considerably by the evening. Mirny, the nearest Soviet research station, was more than 1,000 miles from Novolazarevskaya. Antarctic research stations of other countries did not have an aircraft. Severe blizzard conditions prevented aircraft landing in any case. Rogozov had no option but to perform the operation on himself.
The operation started at about 22:00 on 30 April with the help of a driver and meteorologist, who were providing instruments and holding a mirror to observe areas not directly visible, while Rogozov was in a semi-reclining position, half-turned to his left side. A solution of 0.5% Novocaine was used for local anesthesia of the abdominal wall. Rogozov made a 10-12 cm incision and proceeded to expose the appendix. General weakness and nausea developed about 30–40 minutes after the start of the operation, so that short pauses for rest were repeatedly needed after that. According to his report the appendix was found to have a 2×2 cm perforation at its base. Antibiotics were administered directly into the peritoneal cavity. By about midnight the operation was complete.
After a brief period of postoperative weakness, the signs of peritonitis disappeared. Rogozov’s temperature returned to normal after five days, and the stitches were removed seven days after the operation. He resumed his normal duties in about two weeks. The self-surgery captured the imagination of the Soviet public at the time. In 1961 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
